Nestled in east Denver, the Lowry neighborhood is a hidden gem that combines small-town vibes with city convenience. Once the site of a bustling Air Force base, Lowry has transformed into one of Denver’s most beloved communities—where art, nature, history, and fun intersect in the best ways.
Lowry is near and dear to my heart. Having lived in Lowry for 2 decades and helped dozens and dozens of Lowry residents buy and sell their homes, I sincerely love this remarkable Denver neighborhood and consider myself somewhat of an expert on all things Lowry.
Whether you’re exploring solo, with your partner, or wrangling the whole fam, here’s how to spend a day you’ll love in Lowry.
☕ Start the Morning Right: Coffee & Conversation

Begin your day with a cozy caffeine fix at either Logan House Coffee Company, located in the Lowry’s Boulevard One or Copper Door Roasters, located in the historic Hangar 2. Copper Door is woman owned and the majority of the coffee is sourced form women producers. The vibe at both of these local gems is modern industrial with a laid-back energy—ideal for catching up with friends with a latte in hand.
For a more hearty breakfast, go to the Delectable Egg in the Lowry Town Center, one of my family’s favorites! True there are other locations around Denver, but the Lowry restaurant in the Town Center is the OG! Try the pancakes or one of their egg scrambles. So good!
✈️ Take Flight: Wings Over the Rockies Museum

Next to Copper Door Coffee is one of Lowry’s crown jewels: Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Musuem. This museum housed in Hangar 1 of the former Lowry Air Force Base is a paradise for aviation buffs and curious minds. Wander among massive aircraft, try your hand at a flight simulator, and don’t miss the Star Wars X-Wing replica—it’s a favorite for all ages. If you’re with kids, this is easily a highlight of the day.
🌳 Stroll by the Historic Lowry Chapel

After exploring the museum, take a leisurely walk through the Lowry Town Center. The Eisenhower Chapel, a historic non-denominational chapel was built as one of four chapels on the former Lowry Air Force Base. It is the only surviving chapel of its kind in Colorado. President Dwight D. Eisenhower and his wife Mamie attended services here during his presidency, adding to its historical significance.
Fun Fact: Mamie Eisenhower and her three sisters grew up in Denver. Tours of the Eisenhower Chapel are available by appointment only. Contact: (303) 344-0481 | chapel@lowryfoundation.org
📚 Unwind at The Lowry Reading Garden

After soaring through aviation history, take it down a notch with a relaxing visit to one of Lowry’s hidden treasures: The Lowry Reading Garden. This cool literary themed park is hidden on a quiet street near the Steam Plant residences and lofts. Surrounding the reading garden are granite book “spines” with inscriptions of book titles which dedicated by hundreds of individuals.
Fun Fact: The Reading Garden highlights inspirational quotes from great authors. However, rumor is there are a few misappropriated quotes. You’ll have to visit and test your literary knowledge to see if you can find them. The Lowry Reading Garden was voted Best Pocket Park in Denver for 2016 by Westword Magazine!
🛍️ Retail Therapy: Local Boutiques & Finds

Lowry is a little haven for several very special local shops. Explore stylish boutiques like Kismet for cutting edge women’s fashion and accessories; Chewy’s Boutique for the best dog treats and pet supplies; and Timbuk Toys for outstanding curated children’s toys, gifts and games. Nobody wraps better birthday presents than Timbuk Toys!
Check out Lowry Wine & Spirits for curated bottles (perfect for a picnic later). Further enhance your home entertaining at the Savory Spice Shop. The Lowry Town Center is full of local flavor without the chaos of big-box retail—ideal for browsing at your own pace.
🥗 Lunch in Lowry: Fish Tacos, Bagels & Bibimbap

When you are ready for lunch, swing by North County for SoCal-inspired tacos and an excellent margarita menu. North County has a great patio perfect for soaking up the Denver sunshine. Other favorite lunch spots are Woodgrain with Canadian style bagels and the Korean Restaurant in the Town Center BaekGa. BaekGa’s lunch special is one of the best authentic foodie experiences in Denver. Crisp and Green, a local salad chain, is a good spot to find a healthy salad or acai bowl.
🎨 Afternoon Arts, Sports and Outdoor Adventure

Spend the afternoon getting artsy or outdoorsy—your choice.
- Arts: Head to the Lowry Foundation’s public art installations sprinkled around the neighborhood. From sculptures to murals, it’s like an open-air gallery that adds color to every stroll.
- Outdoors: Take a walk or bike ride through Crescent Park or Great Lawn Park, which features wide green spaces, trails, and mountain views. These are family- and dog-friendly, with room to run and relax.
- Sports: Lowry is very sporty! Find your sport of choice…Lowry offers all kinds of fields, courts and even swimming pools and ice rinks! The Montclair Rec Center has the coolest indoor pool with fun slides for kids; and Big Bear Ice Arena is a great place to learn to skate or watch a hockey game. The Lowry Tennis Courts at the Sports Complex are open to the public and even have lights for night play.

🍦 Lowry Snacks & Treats

You can’t visit Lowry without getting a locally made ice cream from the giant silver Rocket Ship next to Wings Over the Rockies. The flavors are the best. Highly recommend Cookie Monster, Mint Oreo and Space Junkie! If pastries are your guility pleasure, one of Denver’s premiere bakeries opened a Lowry location in the Town Center. Gateaux Bakery is THE place to find unparalleled sugar cookies, petite fours, croissants, birthday cakes and more.
Another great place to run in and get a snack is Clark’s Market in Boulevard One. Their pastry counter and gelato wheel is super tempting, but there are also lots of healthy options from nuts to fruit and lots more.
🏡 Dreamy Architecture & Great Denver Homes

After a delicious snack, check out the wide range of architectural styles throughout Lowry ranging from ultra modern to old and historic. Drive or stroll through the different residential areas to admire the diverse and picturesque homes. Each pocket neighborhood within Lowry has its own highlights and unique community vibe.
One of the best ways I know to highlight the different residential areas within Lowry is to share my own personal experience living and selling real estate in Lowry.
Lowry’s South Neighborhood:

My first house in Lowry house was in the South neighborhood close to Lowry Elementary and the expansive Bayaud Park. I remember the day the City of Denver first opened the park in the early 2000’s. Bayaud Park was one of Lowry’s first parks and is always known as a place for community gathering and fun. The homes in the south neighborhood are a good mix of custom homes built by a variety of builders, spacious Richmond Homes two-stories, stylish single family homes built by Village Homes and lovely townhouses. Most homes in this neighborhood are under $1.5 million.
Sixth Avenue Parkway:

My second house was one of the first Custom Homes on Sixth Avenue Parkway. I highly recommend driving down Sixth Avenue to see a wide range of cool architectural styles and landscaping design. Home prices on Sixth Avenue fall in the muliti-million dollar range. My original house I built on 6th Avenue, 8221 E. Sixth Avenue recently sold by LIV Sotheby’s for $1,900,000. On the higher end, a home on Sixth Avenue sold in 2023 for over three million.
North Neighborhood:

The thing about Lowry real estate is the value just goes up and up. An example is my recent listing in Lowry’s North Neighborhood, next to Aviator Park. This two-story charmer at 1004 Roslyn Street closed at $1,000,000 and was previously purchased for $537,000 in 2013. Speaking of the North Neighborhood, I love the stunning custom homes surrounding Crescent Park. The architecture is so varied and unique, and the proximity to parks and recreation is phenomenal. Going around Crescent Park is always uplifiting.
Park Heights & Boulevard One

My third house in Lowry was in a special enclave of custom homes in West Lowry a lot of people don’t know about called Park Heights. Both Park Heights and the adjacent new Lowry area Boulevard One, showcase fabulous multi-million dollar custom homes. While Park Heights is exclusively single family homes, Boulevard One offers a mix of single family and high end townhomes. Park Heights has a wide mix of home styles, while Boulevard One leans more to a modern feel.
Lowry’s East & West Neighborhoods
Lowry’s East Neighborhood is another great area centered around a fabulous park. The proximity to Tailwind Park, Lowry Dog Park, the Lowry Sports Park and a plethora of recreational activities is a huge draw. The homes are spacious and the perfect setting for quality Lowry living. The price per square foot is one of the best in Lowry making it a popular choice.
Another good value in Lowry are the homes west of the Town Center surrounding Sunset Park. These stylish residences have These homes have a nice number of bedrooms, baths and a great proximity to the park, the Town Center and the Schlessman Family Denver Public Library. Running through the different neighborhood in Lowry is always a lot of fun.
🍽️ Dinner Delights: Lowry Dining Favorites
As the sun sets, there are many great choices for dinner. Make your way to the Officers Club in Hangar 2 for a stylish nod to the neighborhood’s military past with craft cocktails and elevated comfort food; or head to the Town Center for a casual bite at Walter’s 303 – home to my favorite cauliflower pizza in Denver. Walter’s is extra fun in the summer. The patio sits adjacent to the in ground fountains where kids love running through on a hot day. Both restaurants serve hearty portions and a warm neighborhood welcome.
🌙 Evening Fun: Fire Pits, Golf, Trivia & Live Music

If you’re with family, grab dessert at Rocket Ice Cream and let the kids burn off energy at one of the nearby playgrounds. For a more grown up vibe, check out Lowry Beer Garden, where fire pits, string lights, and local brews set the mood. Occasionally, you’ll catch live music or trivia nights—always a great way to end the day. I also love the Hangar Club, an upscale sports bar with great hangout space and golf simulators.
💫 Wrap It Up
Whether you came for the history, the great food, or just to breathe some fresh Colorado air, Lowry delivers. It’s a neighborhood that knows how to blend fun and relaxation—perfect for a spontaneous day trip or a weekend wander. So the next time you’re craving a day that feels like a little escape without leaving the city, Lowry is a fun place to explore.
